Is Your Plumber Licensed, Registered and Insured?

By issuing a Compliance Certificate, Licensed Plumbers are attesting that their work has been performed to the standards set by the Plumbing Industry Commission.

 

The Compliance Certificate issued by your Licensed Plumber states the work complies with all relevant regulations, standards and codes, the work quality is guaranteed, and your product warranties are all clear.

 

Every plumbing job in Victoria valued at $750 or more, as well as all below-ground sewer work and most gasfitting work, requires a Licensed Plumber to issue the customer with a Compliance Certificate.

 

Before your plumber starts the job, make sure they’re qualified and licensed to do the work. All Licensed Plumbers carry a licence card with photo identification, a licence number, the plumber’s name and an expiry date.The identification card also describes the classes of plumbing work the holder is licensed to undertake.

As a condition of the Plumbing Industry Commission licence, every Licensed Plumber is insured for plumbing work valued at $750 or more. This means if the work is found to be defective, it will be rectified. Even if the Licensed Plumber cannot fix the defective work, or is no longer in business, the problem will be resolved by the insurer.

A Compliance Certificate is issued for every plumbing job undertaken by a Licensed Plumber that is valued at $750 or more, as well as for all below-ground sewer work and for most gasfitting work – regardless of the cost.

The Compliance Certificate tells you:

  • What work was completed, when, and by whom
  • That the Licensed Plumber stands by the work
  • That you can be confident any problems with the work will be addressed.
